Etizolam is a thienodiazepine — the thiophene ring replaces the benzene ring of classic benzodiazepines — but it binds the same GABA-A site and produces benzo-like effects. It is not approved in the US and is sold as a research chemical.
Its short half-life (~3.5–7 hours) means urine detection is brief, typically a day or two on specialized assays.
